Pathway 3 Experiences
Curriculum
A clear curriculum of topic based themes is designed to meet the needs of all learners in Pathway 3, to ensure that students understand the world around them. It integrates functional life skills such as technology, cooking, horticulture and other real-life tasks, allowing students to develop practical skills they can apply in their everyday lives.
Opportunities to try new experiences
Providing opportunities for students to try new experiences is really important for the students in Pathway 3. One of the areas we try to explore with the students is work experience. This helps the students to gain exposure to different environments and roles, contributing to their personal development. In turn, this opens up future possibilities, encourages them to step out of their comfort zones, learning to manage they own emotions and behaviours when appropriate.
Learning outside school
Learning should extend beyond the classroom, enabling students in Pathway 3 to understand and engage with the world around them. Real-life learning activities such as cooking or exploring the community, help students to build practical skills and an awareness of community roles and laws we all have to adhere too. This will prepare the students for the responsibilities of adulthood and whatever pathway comes next for them.
Meaningful choices
Empowering the students of Pathway 3 by valuing their voice and providing opportunities for them to make meaningful choices is essential for their growth and engagement. This would include decisions around their learning, participation in work experiences, or involvement in school initiatives that reflect their personal interests.
Helping students to feel listened to and for them to feel valued for what they like.
Preparing for Adulthood
The Pathway 3 curriculum is designed with a focus on preparing for adulthood, starting in Key stage 3, all the way to post 16, the emphasis being on functional life skills and real-world learning that students can use as they transition to different environments or learning providers. Activities such as work experience and learning about their local communities, provide practical knowledge essential for adulthood.
Equality, diversity and inclusion
A key focus of the curriculum is celebrating and embracing diversity. Equal opportunities in Pathway 3 are provided to all students, ensuring that everyone, regardless of their background, is given the chance to succeed. By learning about and celebrating diversity, students have the opportunity to develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of the differences that make our communities stronger.
Our curriculum has inclusion at the centre of what we teach and deliver to our students, which is emphasised in our mission statement.
